DiabetesDAO is committed to funding groundbreaking research projects that have the potential to revolutionize diabetes treatment and management. The focus is on projects that leverage cutting-edge technologies, innovative therapeutic approaches, and people-centered solutions. Some key research areas include:

• Next-Generation Diabetes Treatments: Funding research into new medications, biologics, and therapies aimed at improving glucose control, minimizing complications, prevention, early detection, lifestyle interventions and mental health support.

• Artificial Intelligence & Personalized Medicine: Supporting AI-driven predictive models and personalized treatment strategies to tailor interventions to individual needs.

• Data Interoperability: Promoting secure, patient-owned health data systems to facilitate better research collaborations and real-world evidence generation.

• Additional research to be proposed and voted on by the community.

The Hyper-Personalized AID System Use Case

One of the flagship research projects supported by DiabetesDAO involves the development of an AI-driven Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) system. This hyper-personalized system integrates continuous glucose monitoring, insulin dosing adjustments, and real-time user feedback. The goal is to create an adaptive insulin management system that optimizes treatment on an individual basis, improving time-in-range (TIR) and reducing complications.

The system functions by continuously analyzing a person’s glucose levels, lifestyle factors, and historical insulin response data, allowing for precise, real-time adjustments in insulin dosing. By utilizing advanced machine learning models, the system can anticipate fluctuations and make proactive interventions, significantly reducing the risk of hypo- and hyperglycemic events.

A key advantage of this system is its integration with wearable technology, such as smart insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), sleep, stress and activity trackers.

DiabetesDAO has engaged Welshare Health to build the technical infrastructure for DiabetesDAO’s efforts to collect community-driven health data for its research purposes, including the development of these hyper-personalized AID systems in exchange for a service development fee.

This initiative represents a groundbreaking shift in diabetes care, providing an efficient, scalable, and individualized approach to insulin management. By funding this project, DiabetesDAO aims to revolutionize diabetes treatment through AI-driven automation, ultimately improving quality of life for millions of people worldwide.
